A marriage is a journey taken together
by two souls hitherto on separate paths.
And yet, one of them is expected to cast off
the name which has been an innate part of her,
bid it adieu like the smoke in the chimney.
Why should she have to break and then gather
pieces of herself always supposed to stay together?!

A human being is a living, breathing entity,
with hopes and passions burning within.
How can you rebrand a soul like it’s inanimate-
akin to an asset which has no free will
to have its own place in the world?!
How can you suppress an independent identity,
and then preach about balance and equality?!

A name is seemingly merely a name,
a voice, a word, a means to address you.
And yet, when it is erased and altered,
you end up losing a piece of your soul,
wondering how you could ever let go
of what was always meant to be the same –
for a name is never merely a name!
